What You Need to Know About Telmisartan

Telmisartan belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). It works by selectively binding to angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptors located in muscle cells of the artery walls. Angiotensin II is a hormone that causes blood vessels to tighten or constrict. By blocking the actions of angiotensin II, telmisartan prevents inappropriate vessel constriction and reduces blood pressure.
