This is a 1 micron reusable sediment filter, which means that it will "nominally" filter objects in the water that are 1 micron or more.
A micron is 1 millionth of a meter or 1 thousanth of a millimeter. Nominally means that 1 microns is a nominal value, and the filter may remove objects smaller or let objects larger than 1 micron through
Sediment filters should be the first filter that the water comes in contact with in a multifilter system so that it can remove sediment from the water before getting to the more expensive carbon filters or resin filters.
Reusable filters can be cleaned by using thumb pressure on a hose, and spraying between each pleat individually, then rinsing the entire filter before replacing into the canister.
