Demineralized Bone Matrix: A Promising Material for Orthopedic and Dental Applications
Osteoinductive Properties of DBM
Demineralized Bone Matrix works by releasing BMPs from its collagenous matrix in a controlled manner after implantation. These BMPs have potent osteoinductive properties that recruit mesenchymal stem cells from the surrounding tissues to the defect site and induce their differentiation towards the osteoblastic lineage. The differentiated osteoblasts are responsible for new bone formation by laying down unmineralized osteoid which later mineralizes into mature bone tissue.
