Hydrogel-Based Drug Delivery Systems: Enabling Controlled and Sustained Drug Release
Hydrogel-Based Drug Delivery System are composed of hydrophilic, naturally derived or synthetic polymers that are cross-linked either physically or chemically. Common polymers used include poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), hyaluronic acid, chitosan, alginate, and gelatin. Physical cross-links are formed through entanglements or ionic interactions, while chemical cross-links introduce covalent bonds between polymer chains.
