For all those who have used or seen any of my articles on how to remove silicone lube from sheets then you know that I am always looking out for ways to make our work easier, and save us some time. Recently someone had sent me an email asking me how to remove silicone lube from sheets without having to use a cold press. He asked because he is in the electronics industry and all he has used is to take off the seals around the cell based PVC pipes. He was wondering if it would be possible to do the same thing when handling sheets.
But it does require skill and a certain amount of finesse. I must preface this by saying that before attempting this task you need to ensure that the sheets are absolutely clean. Do not even think about touching any of the chemical compounds on the sheet while cleaning. If you do then it will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the chemicals that are working their way into the PVC pipe joints.
For the purposes of how to remove silicone lube from sheets we must first work through the grease and oil that may be stuck to them. A combination of alcohol and water can do the trick, but a better option would be to use a product such as Wet Stay Poker Stick Remover. This is one product that I would definitely recommend. To use this product simply soak the sheets overnight in hot water. In the morning you simply apply the Wet Stay Poker Sticky Remover to any areas that are affected.
Once the sheets are thoroughly cleaned, the next step is to get to the root of the problem. Believe it or not but you can actually use your common household detergent to clean up silicone stains. All you have to do is add a cup of warm water to two and one-half ounces of gentle dish soap.
Apply this mixture to the stained area of the sheets and leave it on for about twenty minutes. Then simply wash the sheets by running a cold rinse and follow up with a fresh cycle of hot water-soaked dish soap.
As previously mentioned, the stain is caused when a layer of silicone based lubricant builds up on the surface of the sheet. If this layer were to be removed, the sheet could once again be used and would no longer contain a lubricant residue.
This simple process is one that you may have already tried with other silicone based products, but if not then this is an excellent product that can be used for all types of cleaning purposes. The main reason that this type of product works so well is because it works by penetrating the oil -based stains and allowing you to remove them without any further damage to your sheets. It should be noted that this is not the same as an oil based lubricant. The main difference is that the silicone lube will not soak into the surface of the item and will remain below it. With an oil based lubricant the lubricant will build up under the sheet and will become absorbed into the item. This is what causes hard water spots to appear around the item and prevents it from moving properly or staying flat.
So, what makes this type of product effective at removing silicone stains? Well, some products are made specifically with this in mind. An example of this is a silicone cleaner that contains baking soda, salt, and laundry detergent.
These ingredients are formulated to remove the toughest of stains and help to lift others. Another key ingredient in this product is xylitol, which removes silicone stains from metal items. Xylitol was originally used to remove oil stains, but it can work wonders in removing grease and dirt as well.
In addition to removing silicone stains from sheets you should take special care when handling other types of items. Toys make a great example. If you put a hot towel on a hot toy and leave it there for a period of time, the toy may melt.
This is because most of the heat escapes through the towel, so, when you dry the toy you may find that it has become too hot to handle and will have to be either put away or taken to the safety department.
